I have worked in the NHS for over 18 years supporting people across the lifespan, from young people to older adults.
I have a background in human resources and I am passionate about supporting individuals to build a more meaningful and fulfilling life at home as well as in the workplace.
I work collaboratively with clients, using a non-judgemental approach to promote wellbeing. I believe in using a strength-based approach, working with an individual’s wisdom and resources to support them to move forward.
The individuals I have worked with have had different areas they wanted to focus on, such as learning to understand and manage depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, OCD, and/or recovering from traumatic life experiences.
I currently work in perinatal mental health supporting individuals and couples to overcome difficulties experienced during pregnancy and/or in the transition to parenthood.
I have a special interest in working with complex PTSD, with people who have had painful experiences in life, such as bullying or abuse.
I tailor my approach to suit the needs of my client and their goals for therapy. I mainly use Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). I also use a cognitive-behavioural approach (CBT), and incorporate mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I have experience in dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT); individuals can also find this skill-based approach very helpful. I have a keen interest in systemic therapy, and I draw on this to consider wider family, social and cultural factors and to support us to identify possible ways forward.

What to expect from your therapy sessionsI work to provide a safe, contained and confidential space on a weekly basis in which you can share the difficulties you want to work on, at a pace, you feel comfortable, so we can work together towards understanding and change in the direction of your values.
The first session is the assessment and will be slightly longer than a normal session at 90 minutes. This is to give enough time to explore what you have come to therapy for, what you have tried in the past, what helped and what didn't help. At the end of this session, I will try and make some recommendations around what may be most helpful for you.
Following our meeting, I'll summarise our conversation in a letter which I will email to you.
After the assessment session, the sessions will be 50-55 minutes.
Each person I work with is very different so it is difficult to predict how many sessions will be needed. From a personal therapeutic perspective, my aim is only to work with a person for as long as it is helpful and to empower the person to leave therapy with the skills they need.
I appreciate that looking for a therapist can feel a bit overwhelming and confusing. I hope the information above will help to answer some of your questions but if you would like to know more, please contact me in confidence
